China Glaze Capitol Colors – Riveting, Electrify, Luxe and Lush

China Glaze Capitol Colors

This being the week that the Hunger Games movie opens around the world, I thought it would be timely to share the three colours I bought from the China Glaze Capitol Colors collection, or more commonly called the Hunger Games collection.

While the entire collection has 12 colours, I only felt inclined towards these three – Riveting, Luxe & Lush, and Electrify.

I’ve only bought the books last week and have yet to remove their plastic wrappings, much less read them. As such, I’ll just discuss these three lacquers as they are.

Riveting is a bright tangerine orange. It’s reminds me of the colour of blood orange. The polish is a semi-sheer shimmery one, with a gold shimmer running throughout.

That said, it only needed two coats to be opaque. It was also easy to apply and seems to even itself out.

The other two colours I got are meant to be layered over another colour. I decided to do an accent nail so that I can show you all three colours at one go, and since they went well together.

Luxe & Lush contains iridescent shards, rather than the flakes I’m more familiar with. In fact, it resembles the gold flakes sprinkled over food, or those used to illustrate illuminated books.

Application wise, this needs to be ‘dabbed’ on to get the flakes spread out over the nails. I applied two coats as the first did not lay down enough shards.

The shards don’t lie flat like the flakies do. I used two coats of Nubar Diamont and I can still feel bumpiness in the polish. The shards quite unusual though.

Electrify is a glitter polish in a clear base. The glitter is predominantly small gold ones. There are larger red hex glitter scattered in it.

I used two coats of Electrify. It also requires dabbing rather than the usual application method.

With these three as my mani now, my nails are looking really bright and electric!

I don’t think I’ll be getting any more colours from this collex. Have you got any yet?

  • I like that it's a strong orange so it doesn't make my skin look strangely yellow :p
