Jade Mystic Gold, Energy, and Fascinio Violeta

Jade holos

Before I show you the photo spam of my Jade holos, I wanted to share the reason I did this holo skittles mani. Tomorrow night, I’ll be going for the Grasshoppers’ concert at Resorts World Sentosa, and I’m really excited!

For the benefit of my many non-Chinese readers, the Grasshoppers are a pop group from Hong Kong that has been around for almost 30 years! This male trio started as dancers for the legendary Anita Mui before they went on to release their own albums as a group. Coming from a dancer background, their hits are naturally mostly dance pieces. Nevertheless, they have some really timeless ballads too.

Interestingly, I don’t own any of their albums despite my huge CD collection. I never was that kind of fan with them. By chance, when they came for their first concert eons ago, one of my cousins couldn’t make it so I went in her place with her sister. I enjoy going for pop concerts a lot, so I thought there was no harm going for this despite not being a fan. And, boy, was I glad! After that concert, they shot to the top three of my favourite stage performers (A-Mei is Number One; Sammi Cheng is a close second.)! They were fun, cheeky, sexy, flirty, and so full of energy! And they were all out to please their fans – I was most impressed by the five encores, the last of which saw them coming out in bathrobes as they had already changed out of their costumes.

They came for a concert again a couple of years ago and I just had to go again, this time with friends. And what a party we had, grooving along with them! Naturally, when we learnt they were coming again this year, there was no question about it – we were not going to miss them for the world! After all, for men who are like 50 years old, these three still can prance around like they were 15!

They are such glamorous divas that I needed a mani to match their colourful personalities and stage presence! And it was serendipity that I got the three Jade holos I ordered from my friend, Annette, of Shoppe EClecticCo on Wednesday, just in time for the concert!

For those new to the brand, Jade is from Brazil. They caused quite a stir when the first swatches started appearing. The three holos I bought are Mystic Gold, Energy, and Fascinio Violeta – three colours for three Grasshoppers ;) I decided to wear them as skittles and to do colour blocking as accent nails.

For my base, I applied a coat of Trind Nail Repair as I really like how smooth it is. I’ve not tried it as a base coat before and I really don’t know how it will hold. The Jade holos applied easily over it. In fact, it seems like they could easily be one-coaters! Still, I applied a second coat because the camera does pick up things not necessarily visible to the eyes. All but the last two photos are without top coat.

Even under the warm ceiling light and without camera flash, you can see that the holo is very strong.

Of course, the flash just amps up the holo effect! They are such photogenic shades that I just had to show you photos at different angles!

I did vertical colour blocking on my thumb.

A closer look at each colour. First is Mystic Gold. This is a warm gold. I usually buy cooler gold tones but the swatches of this really attracted me. Since I don’t have a warm gold holo already, this was a must-get for me. I think it worked pretty fine on my skin tone. Maybe it’s the rainbow :)

Next is Energy, a green-leaning teal. I’m sure I have similar shades but this is one polish shade I tend to gravitate towards. I’m sure the others have different hues ;)

Jade Energy [artificial light; indoors]

And, naturally, I had to get a purple. And Fascinio Violeta is such a pretty violet to pass up! The purple holos I have are mainly deep purple or more blue-toned ones. This is a mid-tone red-leaning purple.

The actual purple is closer to what’s seen in the photos taken with flash.

It is a common concern among holo lovers that top coat may dull the holo effect. As such, I decided to show you a couple of photos taken after I’d added a layer of Cult Nails Wicked Fast. No dulling, whatsoever!

I am so grateful that Annette brought these in and I’m so happy I decided to get them. They are amazing holos without the application challenges posed by holos such as Nfu Oh. Granted, they are different types of holos and, personally, I am more partial to this type, with the coarser particles, more 3D effect. and less fussy application.

  • OMG…… The Grasshoppers, they were massive in the 90's. Are they big in Singapore?

  • Hi Wing! Well, they aren't big like the Heavenly Kings or Jay Chou, but they do have a following here. Also, in Singapore, we listen to both their Cantonese and Mandarin songs, which helps them reach out to more people :)
