NARS Purple Rain and Million Lacquers PurpShim
Today, I have for you NARS Purple Rain, which I layered with Million Lacquers PurpShim on my ring finger as an accent. There’s a story behind each polish. If you don’t care to know, just go straight to the next photo!
The first story is on NARS Purple Rain.
In my post on two NARS lacquer shades last Dec, I mentioned how I was supposed to get Purple Rain as well. I did not due to some mistake. I’ve been looking out for an opportunity to get it in another way to no avail. I finally thought I would just wait until NARS set up shop in Singapore later this year to try my luck.
And then, out of the blue, fellow local blogger, Evonnz, shared that she managed to check out NARS nail polish from Barneys, which was having a free shipping promotion. Now, my past experience with Barneys was that they did not ship nail polish overseas. Now that their policy seemed to have changed, I quickly grab a bottle of Purple Rain. I was good and only bought that one bottle!
About a week later, the polish arrived in a big box, via DHL, no less. Great deal for free shipping! If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you may have seen the photo I posted when I received this.
What was mysterious was that after a friend saw my photo and decided to order it as well, she found that Barneys no longer shipped NARS nail polish overseas. I wonder if it was not meant to be shipped overseas at all and I only managed to get it due to some mistake on their site. Whatever the case, I now have NARS Purple Rain and I’m in love with it!
Purple Rain is one of those purple polish that don’t play nice with cameras. It is a rich magenta-toned purple with a shimmery finish. The actual tone is closer to that magenta shade you can see in the bottle.
This is a highly pigmented polish. It could be a one-coat polish. I used two out of habit and because the camera could easily pick up any unevenness.
And now, the little story about Million Lacquers PurpShim. Million Lacquers is a local indie brand started by Gwen of Pudgy Nails. She has really cute names for her creations. One set of her lacquers has names linked to some of the other local nail polish enthusiasts.
PurpShim, if you haven’t already connected the dots, is inspired by The Subtle Shimmer. She must also have noticed my love for purple polish!
The polish itself has a clear base with blue, pink, and fuchsia glitter. I noticed what seems like a colour-shifting shimmer in the bottle but I did not see it when layered over the dark base of Purple Rain. I’ll need to try it on its own to better see what is in it.
The effect over Purple Rain reminds me of crushed coloured glass or sweets. Very glittery effect for sure!
I’ve lost track of how many shimmery purple lacquers I have, but every new one I get makes me very excited and happy! Do you have a favourite type of nail polish?
