piCture pOlish Swatch-a-thon Part 1

If you’re a regular reader of The Subtle Shimmer, or follow me on social media, you would probably know that I’m started selling piCture pOlish and Ozotic nail polish again, this time on my Star Trinkets shop.
I started selling the two brands on this blog late last year. Then, earlier this year, piCture pOlish wanted to do some administrative restructuring with regard to their international stockists. The two brands took a short hiatus from Singapore while I continued to work out the new details with them.
I’m very grateful that they have made Star Trinkets the exclusive Singapore stockist for piCture pOlish, as well as a stockist for Ozotic, which they distribute. I hope you guys will give me your support in this!
Anyway, in line with the return of the two brands to Singapore, I swatched a whole bunch of piCture pOlish shades. My main intention was to include the photos in the product details pages of the shop, but I thought I could also put them together in a post (or two).
So, here’s the first bunch of swatches. I only did one-finger swatches for these.
piCture pOlish Bombshell is a shimmery metallic dark blue (but not navy blue). The main worry about a metallic polish is the brushstrokes that tend to be very obvious. This wasn’t a big issue with Bombshell, most probably due to the shimmer. This was two coats, without top coat.
Fake Tan is one of piCture pOlish’s new neon shades. This is a bright neon orange creme. I haven’t mastered the skills to capture a neon polish accurately though. Just think of an orange highlighter and you’ll have a good idea of what this shade really look like.
As seems to be the case with neon polish, this was a tad sheer. With two coats, you may still notice VNL. I used three coats in the photos, with no top coat.
I tried taking photos with flash, but it tends to make Fake Tan look washed out.
piCture pOlish Flirt is a dark pink creme. It’s not quite fuchsia as it doesn’t have as much purple in it. I really like this colour. A pretty pink without being excessively sweet, yet is not quite Barbie-pink. Two easy coats, without top coat.
piCture pOlish Lime Lite is another new neon shade. It’s a beautiful bright green creme. I didn’t think I would like a neon green polish so much. Green highlighter isn’t even a top choice for me, yet I fell in love with Lime Lite the moment I applied the first stroke!
Also a tad sheer, but fine with three coats.
I wanted to try a red creme. I decided on Red Devil because of the name. This applied so well and is such a sexy red creme! Two easy coats, with no top coat here.
piCture pOlish Tango is this terracotta-tone, muted orange creme. It’s like the colour of earth and is an office-appropriate shade. It’s a stronger shade than a nude, yet not so loud that it attracts unnecessary attention (and frowns/raised eyebrows). I really like this as a palate cleanser. Two easy coats again, without top coat.
piCture pOlish Tiffany is a white-based turquoise that leans blue. This is lighter than the actual Tiffany blue. A very soft, pretty shade.
As is typical of such white-based shades, the first coat was a bit streaky. More skilled hands could probably get it to smooth out with a second coat. I’m more clumsy and needed three coats. No top coat here.
Of course, as can be expected with white-based pastels, flash can cause them to look washed out, but I wanted to include a photo taken with flash for your reference.
Violet Femme is categorised by piCture pOlish as a neon shade. It’s true that it looks kind of neon in the bottle. On the nail, however, it looks darker. It’s a really pretty violet shade but not quite what I would describe as neon. As I was telling a friend just the other day, even purple highlighter doesn’t exactly look neon, does it?
This was more opaque that Fake Tan and Lime Lite. Two easy coats, with no top coat.
Do check out Part 2 of my piCture pOlish Swatch-a-thon as well.
piCture pOlish shades are now available on Star Trinkets at http://www.startrinkets.com/en/shop-2/category/nail-lacquer/picture-polish/, along with Ozotic and ManGlaze matte nail polish, some franken materials, and of course my handmade jewellery and accessories.
There is currently a Welcome Back Promotion for piCture pOlish and Ozotic, and each polish is S$1.00 less (S$15.50 or S$18.00, depending on the range). This promotion will end on 22 July 2012. I ship internationally from Singapore.
